Lead GR activities in the UK and Ireland for the Mortgage Insurance business. Develop a Government Relations strategy and deliver an effective Government Relations programme. Summary:
Reporting to the Vice President, Government Relations, Europe, this role will lead GR activities in the UK and Ireland for the Mortgage Insurance business.
Responsibilities:
o Developing a Government Relations strategy for the mortgage insurance business in the UK and Ireland
o Delivering/implementing an effective Government Relations programme in the UK and Ireland
o Progressing media engagement to support Government Relations objectives
o Promoting the value of mortgage insurance to key policy makers, and working towards achieving a positive regulatory environment for the product in the UK and Ireland
o Understanding, simplifying and communicating a complex business to a wide range of stakeholder audiences (from policy and technical specialists at the FSA to political, industry and other stakeholder audiences at all levels)
o Collaborating with the business to draft a wide range of collateral, including:
i. FSA and HM Treasury consultation responses on complex, technical issues relating to capital, credit risk transfer and other issues
ii. Political presentations and briefing material for UK Ministers, MPs as well as preparing similar material for Irish politicians
iii. Preparing clear information for Treasury, Finance and Housing officials in the UK and Ireland
o Arranging and conducting briefing meetings with key stakeholders, as well as facilitating briefing meetings at senior level for key people in Genworth
o Representing Genworth at appropriate industry, regulatory and political events
o Arranging thought leadership and policy discussions with key opinion formers on finance and housing finance policy
o Building a wide network of contacts for the mortgage insurance business
o Responsibility for delivering complex projects and co-ordinating input from colleagues across the business
Essential Qualifications:
o Proven track record of delivering effective Government Relations campaigns in the UK in the financial services and/or housing sector
o Track record of implementing UK media campaigns to support Government Relations objectives
o Well established political, parliamentary, regulatory and industry network
o Financial, economic or housing media network an advantage
o Good networks amongst major lenders, BBA, CML an advantage
o Likely to have a Government Relations background in the financial services sector, particularly interested in those with retail banking/mortgages/capital backgrounds
o Likely to have worked at the Treasury, FSA, in Government or Parliament, or in a Government Relations role at a relevant trade association or financial services institution, or have a Government Relations consultancy background focusing on financial services
o Good understanding of the Capital Requirements Directive as it relates to credit protection/credit risk mitigation, as well as knowledge of relevant UK regulations such as BIPRU, BSOCS
o Good understanding of technical capital issues of major lenders
o Experience communicating with politicians at all levels across all parties, with an established network
o Excellent political and policy judgement
o Experience working with policy makers in the Financial Services Authority
o Experience in insurance or banking sectors with strong understanding of the regulatory and political environment in the UK and Ireland
o Exceptional organisational, planning and time management skills
o Ability to make decisions quickly and accurately
o Excellent analytical skills
o 'Can do' attitude
o Ability to deliver projects to deadlines
o Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
Desired Qualifications:
o Experience of Government Relations in Ireland
o Understanding of mortgage insurance markets, distribution and operational models
o Economics, politics, regulatory or legal background
o Language skills an advantage, but not a requirement

Mortgage Insurance (MI) protects lenders and investors in the event that a mortgage borrower defaults on a loan and the proceeds of the sale of the property are insufficient to pay the outstanding debt. Our MI products enable lenders to provide the end borrower with earlier and potentially more affordable access to home ownership by allowing them to put down a lower deposit.
